Mayflower Fit-Out

Backfilling and fitting works are in progress at the station. RC works for all entrances have completed to ground level, and RC works on the ventilation superstructures are in progress.

Mayflower - Basic Structure Completion

The Mayflower Station has achieved the Basic Structure Completion (BSC) earlier this quarter, making it the first station along the entire line to do so. The T210 team accomplished this around 3 months ahead of schedule, an extremely remarkable feat in the MRT construction where most projects struggle to even meet the dateline.

Filling and reinstatement works are progressing over the roof slab as the RC works for the entrance and service superstructure takes place. Numerous road realignments will begin to take place around the site for the phased removal of the temporary steel road decking as part of the permanent works.

Mayflower Cast (V)

A realignment of Avenue 4 has been implemented for the RC construction of the 7th and final entrance B. The superstructure works for Entrance E & G are underway, and casting works for the closing of the station box are in progress to complete the station structure.

Mayflower Cast (IV)

Structural works for the station and entrances are largely completed. A realignment of Street 11 has taken place for the construction of the underpass link from the station to entrance D.

Mayflower Cast (II)

Casting works for the station have reached the platform level where all excavation works have completed. The project is currently one of the quickest along the line, with the station and entrances seemingly on track to achieve basic structural completion next year - ahead of the indicative 2018 target.

Mayflower Cast

Casting of the concourse slab at the Mayflower station started in the previous quarter and and is largely completed at the subways and entrances. Excavation works are at the mezzanine level now.

Piling at Mayflower (V)

Piling works are entering its final phase at the Mayflower station. The stage 3B traffic diversion was implemented at the site last Saturday to make way for the construction of the remaining bored piles. The diversion will last until the end of the year.

Piling at Mayflower (IV)

Piling works at the Mayflower Station are now about 60% completed. The third traffic diversion along Avenue 4 was implemented earlier this month. The realigned road to the east now allow for piling to be done on the west side of the station box. The diversion is envisaged to last for 3 months. Grouting is taking place on the south side of the station as well.

Piling at Mayflower (II)

Bore piling works continue at the Mayflower site. A second traffic diversion was implemented mid-December at the junction of Street 11, swinging the twin carriageway of Avenue 4 towards the west. The diversion will last for 2-3 months. Instrumentation works have also begun with tiltmeters installed along the columns of the HDB flats surrounding the site.

Penta Ocean from the neighboring contract T211 is also preparing a small site south of Mayflower for preparatory works of the 2 TBMs that will be driven from Bright Hill, both of which will go beneath the foundations of Block 258. More will be shared in the T211 update.

Piling at Mayflower

The groundbreaking ceremony for Mayflower station was commemorated along with Lentor last Saturday. At the Mayflower site, Avenue 4 has just been diverted last week to facilitate the construction of the bored piles for the retaining wall. The diversion will remain till end 2015, when the SBP construction is completed.

The ERSS of a station can be constructed using diaphragm walls as seen at Springleaf and Lentor. Another method of constructing the underground structures would be the use of secant bored piles (SBP). Over at Mayflower station, this method will be adopted.

The pile's casing is first drilled into the ground, leaving 1-2m of the casing head exposed to the surface. The exposed cylinder guides the excavation of the bored pile, which is carried out next using a rotary drilling rig. The soil surrounding the borehole is supported by the casing. If the casing is not long enough to reach the required depth in the ground, bentonite slurry is used to support the soil below the casing. After excavation is complete, the reinforced steel cage is inserted into the casing, and concrete is poured. The casing is then removed and the retaining wall or ERSS is completed.

Making of Mayflower

Contract T210 is for the construction of the Mayflower station and was awarded to Hong Kong-based Gammon Construction, who have completed both the North East Line (NEL) and Downtown Line (DTL) Chinatown stations and the Bukit Panjang LRT previously. Mayflower station will see the most exits on any Thomson Line station with 7 exit structures being built. Situated on a slight incline, the station will see construction taking place in close proximity to many HDB blocks around. Already, a number of trees have been chopped down to make way for the station construction and will be re-planted once construction is done. Some walkways between the blocks will be demolished in the process as well.

Works begin - Mayflower

Works have commenced at the site of Mayflower station with contractor for T210 - Gammon Construction - moving machinery on site. Currently, a test pile is being constructed and this marks the initial stage of construction ahead of further site clearing, construction of the earth retaining system and subsequent construction of the station superstructure. Gammon's site office has also been completed and works will begin in earnest soon.

Mayflower to Lentor - Before the Trees Go

In this update we have a final glance at the dense vegetation that currently lines up AMK Avenue 4 where 2 main cut and cover structures would be built. Trees identified to be chopped for the construction are tied with red and white tape. This is also currently visible along Upper Thomson, in which we would do an update much later on. 

For the section between Mayflower and Lentor, agencies such as PUB and SP are still necessitating the various utility diversions works. These works are commanded with the use of mini excavators which can be seen lying near footpaths along the road. The trees should go within the next quarter.

Tunnel Chart for TSL

Here's the tunnel chart organised into two sheets - stage 1 and 2, and stage 3. The exact number for T206 is not known at the moment. A total of 36 TBMs (excluding T206) are set be procured for the entire TSL.

Contract Award - T210, T203, T209 & T210

4 contracts have been awarded this month, on 18 October 2013. These consist of 3 stations and 1 contract to build the depot. Of the 3 stations, 1 contract is a build-only contract while the remaining 2 contracts involve design work in addition to construction. The contract awards are as follows:

T201 - Mandai Depot - Jurong Primewide
T203 - Woodlands station - GS Engineering & Construction
T209 - Lentor station - China Railway No. 5 Engineering
T210 - Mayflower station - Gammon Construction
