Piling at Mount Pleasant (IV)

Piling works continue for the Mount Pleasant station. The launch shaft for T215 has been excavated down to the S4 layer and has almost reached the formation level.

The Mount Pleasant site is unique to see 2 different contracts handling the mixed-ground bored tunnel works on either ends with their dedicated launch shafts and slurry TBMs, the first such dividend in the scope of works for the MRT construction. 2 separate STPs are in the midst of assembly alongside each other north of the site as a result.

Caldecott Excavation (II)

Deep excavation works continues at the Thomson Cripple Siding. Installation of struts have almost reached across the entire length of the Caldecott station box.

Rock has been interfaced at this stage of the excavation, and expertise have been called in with the use of special detonators to mitigate the vibration and minimize ground disturbance to the neighbouring skyscrapers, and most importantly the adjacent operational Circle Line.

JTSC TBM - Factory Acceptance

The JTSC TBMs for the T207 project were signed off at the factory acceptance test held north of Suzhou earlier this week. 4 EPB machines were procured by Shimizu for a combined tunnel drive of approximately 6km in length. 2 of these machines will execute the single longest tunnel drive along the Thomson Line between Springleaf Station and the RTS facility building, stretching 2km.

Tunnelling works should commence around the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Mandai Depot & T206

Excavation works progresses along the cut and cover structures along the T206 project.

Launch Shaft 1 & 2
The Changi Bound TBM has completed assembly works within the adit tunnel of LS2 and will launch by the middle of this month. Excavation of LS1 has completed and the team is now blasting the horizontal section on both ends for the adit tunnel. The depot-bound STEC EPBM is slated to commence tunnelling along RT3 by the end of the year.

SBAB C&C & Escape Shaft 2
The ES2 structure now has the entire S1 layer shored along its entire length. The north launch shafts at the Sembawang Airbase C&C tunnel has now been excavated down about 20 meters, close to the formation level with an approximate reduced level of 95.000. The gantry cranes have been installed around the launch shafts, and tunnelling here should commence by year end with the TBMs arriving and assembling in the 4th quarter.

Mandai Depot
Columns along the north end of the stabling area are currently being cast. The structure will feature 45 parallel tracks, more than thrice the width that of the Downtown Line's Gali Batu Depot. Each track will accommodate for 2 x 4 passenger cars to effectively house the entire fleet of the 43km Thomson-East Coast line. The depot has been intentionally over-designed for future fleet expansions should the need arises.

Woodlands Excavation

After a year of piling, the T203 project team have commenced excavation works at the crossover tunnel. Sewer diversion works around the Avenue 2/5 junction are still ongoing and will complete soon. Piling works are now concentrated at the site of the vent shafts and cooling tower on the north end of the station box.

A large amount of rock lies shallowly beneath the T203 project site, and the overall excavation process is envisaged to be one of the slowest among all the projects.
