Woodlands Excavation (III)

Excavation of the Woodlands station is progressing down to the S2 layer. The completion of the diversion at the Ave2/5 junction in December makes way for the secant bored pile works at the southern portion of the crossover tunnel. The temporary Woodlands Bus Interchange will open next Saturday allowing for the subsequent commencement of A&A works to the existing bus interchange and NSL station for the linkway connection.

Woodlands Excavation (II)

Excavation works have commenced across the station box. Removal of the top soil reveals a coarse ground conditions at a shallow formation. The rock head of the Bukit Timah Granite is extremely high around the site and extensive rock blasting can be expected throughout the course of the excavation works over the next year.

The previously-excavated section of the crossover tunnel has now been decked over in accommodation of the impending traffic realignment of the Avenue 2/5 junction. The remaining half of the crossover tunnel will then be constructed after the diversion has taken place.

The temporary bus interchange is almost ready and on track to open around January.

Woodlands Excavation

After a year of piling, the T203 project team have commenced excavation works at the crossover tunnel. Sewer diversion works around the Avenue 2/5 junction are still ongoing and will complete soon. Piling works are now concentrated at the site of the vent shafts and cooling tower on the north end of the station box.

A large amount of rock lies shallowly beneath the T203 project site, and the overall excavation process is envisaged to be one of the slowest among all the projects.

Piling at Woodlands

Following the groundbreaking, South Woodlands Drive has seen a road diversion. To date, a total of 7 crawler cranes and 6 piling rigs flood the site. Works are currently being focused on the crossover tunnel which will sit below the existing road junction of Avenue 2/5, hence the need for a future road diversion which can be expected soon after sewer diversions are completed by T2119A.

Under the neighbouring tunnel contract T206, 2 TBMs boring the mainline tunnels from LS2 are planned to dock at this crossover tunnel by the end of next year.

Moving down to Woodlands Central

Moving down south, after curving between HDB blocks and following Woodlands Drive 91 and Woodlands Street 81, the line emerges to Woodlands central. Being an interchange station with the North-South Line, some modification works are necessary at the existing station before construction can begin proper on the Thomson Line station and tunnels.

Into the Woodland

As promised in this update, we will be sharing more about the area around Woodlands South. The tunnel arrangement here will be one of the most complex along the entire line due to the configuration for reception tracks to the Mandai Depot in the vicinity. As such, the authorities dedicated the entire tunnelling works for both mainline and reception tunnels between Woodlands and SBAB to a sole contract - T206. Contract T206 will further interface with another 4 contracts (T201, T203, T205 and T207)
