Mount Pleasant - Basic Structure Completion

The station achieved the basic structure completion at the beginning of the year, with backfilling works done up. RC works for the entrance and ventilation structures are progressing at ground level. 

A completed portion of the staging ground has been hoarded up in preparation for partial handover to T250. The remaining uncompleted portion around launch shaft 9 will be handed over following the complete dismantling of the TBM, backfilling and casting of the trackwork access opening.

February Tunnel Progress

The T215 and T217 projects have successfully completed all tunnelling works this week with the docking of the 2 Herrenknecht Mixshield TBMs at the Caldecott cripple siding tunnel and Napier station respectively. 14 bored tunnel drives remain - bulk of which would be completed in the second quarter of the year.

The next breakthrough will take place at Caldecott by TBM 3 under the T212 project around end Feb/early March. Its sister TBM 2 will subsequently arrive approximately 6 weeks later, concluding the tunnelling works for Stage 2 and TELC2 in April.

RC works progresses at the station's concourse level. Structure around entrance B has surfaced to the basement roof level with formwork installation ongoing in preparation for the first roof slab cast.

The concourse slab is largely completed in the station structure and the final concrete pour at this level is ongoing. The S2 struts along the south side of the station has already been dismantled in preparations for the formwork installation for the RC roof slab casting.

Structure of the station is proceeding up at the Mezzanine level. TBM S-936 had been re-lowered into the launch shaft in May for the commencement of tunnelling works on the Woodlands bound tunnel.

The platform and mezzanine levels of the station have been cast and RC works will progress up to the concourse level in the next quarter. TBM S-936 has also completed the first Changi bound tunnel towards Caldecott earlier this month.

Excavation works are progressing through the S5-S6 layer and should wrap up by year end. TBM S-936 is in the midst of transitioning to its main drive.

July Tunnel Progress

Tunnelling works are underway along all the projects along stages 1 and 2 of the line, with the first slurry TBM for the T211 project launched at Bright Hill this week. 5 bored tunnels have been completed by the first half of the year and a further 5-8 tunnels are envisaged to complete by year end.

Mount Pleasant Excavation (II)

Bulk excavation and strutting works are underway at the Mount Pleasant station. The project's sole Herrenknecht mixshield TBM S-936 commenced its initial drive yesterday night for the 782m Changi bound tunnel towards Caldecott.

The bored piling works are wrapping up and the piling rigs are gradually being demobilized. Casting of the capping beam for perimeter of the structure is still ongoing and topsoil removal is making way for the installation of the first strut level.

Excavation of the Changi-bound tunnel is advancing at a slow pace and 2 cutterhead interventions have been performed since the launch of the TBM back in December. It's sister TBM is slated to commence mining on the Woodlands-bound tunnel by the end of this month.

The secant bored pile retaining system at Mount Pleasant is almost completed and excavation works will commence from the next quarter onward. The herrenknecht slurry TBM has arrived at the site in preparations of the tunnelling works toward Caldecott.

Piling works continue for the Mount Pleasant station. The launch shaft for T215 has been excavated down to the S4 layer and has almost reached the formation level.

The Mount Pleasant site is unique to see 2 different contracts handling the mixed-ground bored tunnel works on either ends with their dedicated launch shafts and slurry TBMs, the first such dividend in the scope of works for the MRT construction. 2 separate STPs are in the midst of assembly alongside each other north of the site as a result.

Piling works have intensified across the Mount Pleasant station site, with additional piling rigs brought to the site increasing the total count of 9. 5 mobile cranes are supporting the bored pile process in addition to the 2 crawler cranes.

Over the past quarter, the south launch shaft had successfully been excavated down 5 levels and had just been completed by the T215 team. The launch shaft is now anticipating a handover process to the T216 project which will facilitate the tunnel works to Stevens.

The north launch shaft had just commenced excavation and should be ready by year end.

Piling works have completed at the south launch shaft and the project team is preparing the site for excavation works. The priority now is to pile the north launch shaft - which will require a single slurry TBM to complete both bored tunnels toward Caldecott. The total tunnel excavation length is approximately 1.5km and would require about 2 years to complete.

Numerous handovers of the launch shafts would take place between the site's main contractor, adjacent T216 contractor as well as the trackwork contractor in the future. Delays are essential to be kept at minimum at every phase to prevent a snowball effect.

KTC which was subcontracted for earthworks at the Mount Pleasant site has since moved out and its site office has been demolished. Piling works have commenced at both the north and south launch shafts, with a priority of the completion of the south shaft first - which will subsequently be handed over to Daewoo of the neighbouring contract T216.  The 3-storey site office for the LTA has been structurally completed south of the site and is in the process of being fitted out.

Under T215, Herrenknecht will be supplying a slurry TBM and STP for the tunnel drives from the north shaft to the TCS at Caldecott.

Mount Pleasant Earthworks

At Mount Pleasant, KTC has been subcontracted to facilitate the demolishment of the old police academy blocks. Works started since our previous update in June and the site had just recently been fully cleared. Earthworks are now underway to flatten the land before works on the retaining wall fully begin. 2 piling rigs and silos have been set up west of the site.

Mount Pleasant Clears

Mount Pleasant is the northern most station along the third stage of the Thomson Line. Contract T215, which the station is under, has been awarded to RSEA-Eng Lee-Wai Fung JV. Twin bored tunnels to Caldecott will be built under this contract as well.

Situated at the old police academy, site clearing and demolishment of the vacated building is underway, with several compact to medium build excavators being delivered to the site. Mount Pleasant is the third Temporary Staging Area (TSA) site for trackworks.

Contract Awards - T215, T216 & T223

Contracts T215, T216 and T223 were awarded today. T215 is for the construction of Mount Pleasant station and associated tunnels. This contract has gone to RSEA - Eng Lee - Wai Fong Construction Joint Venture.

T216 will see the construction of Stevens interchange station and associated tunnels. This station will allow commuters to transfer between the Downtown Line and Thomson Line. This contract has been awarded to Daewoo Engineering.

T223 is for the construction of Maxwell station only. This stacked station will be built by home-grown company, Hock Lian Seng (HLS). Previously, HLS has completed the Marina Bay Circle Line station and are currently finishing the Downtown Line Gali Batu Depot.
