Filling and compaction works are taking place over the completed structure of the station. Construction of the permanent utilities and carriageway of Upper Thomson Road are concurrently taking place in preparations for the Stage 3 traffic realignment scheme. Construction of entrance B2 has started.

Springleaf - Basic Structure Completion

Casting of the station's roof slab has almost entirely completed and waterproofing works are in progress. RC works for the roof-ground level structure at the entrances and ventilation shafts have also taken place. The team has taken back possession of the launch shaft from T207 with structural works of the tunnel in progress. Backfilling works will commence from the next quarter onwards, and the realignment of Upper Thomson Road will take place after the hacking of the d-wall panels.

Structure of the station box is largely completed with about 2/3 of the roof slab volume cast. BSC is scheduled by the end of the year.

Installation of the first layer of strut are underway, marking the start of the excavation works at the Springleaf Station. The remaining bored pile works for the southern portion of the station continues and excavation for the entire station will be in full swing by the next quarter.

Springleaf D-walls & Piles (III)

The final D-wall panel for the Springleaf station was completed this week. Bored pile works and the deep cement mixing ground improvement activities continue across the station footprint, and the breakthrough point of the TBM drives from Tagore. Excavation works for the station will start around February after all ground improvement works have completed.

Meanwhile, excavation works have commenced along the service corridors for the ventilation shafts beneath the road decking, as well as entrance C.

Springleaf D-walls & Piles (II)

Springleaf sees the continual trenching and construction of the diaphragm wall and bored piles forming the earth retaining system, in addition to deep soil mixing activities. Excavation works have commenced at the north launch shaft which will be handed over to the T207 project. Excavation has reached the S3 layer and the launch shaft should be handed over by year end.

Clear roads ahead for the Springleaf project as the southbound carriageway was successfully diverted on March 22, shortly after our previous update, completing the major road diversion works at the site. Works on the temporary earth retaining structure for the station box are now underway.

The first traffic diversion for the Springleaf site was implemented at the end of January earlier this year. The Sembawang-bound carriageway of Upper Thomson Road now skirts away from the shophouses, segregating the worksite into two. As the station box sits beneath the entire span of the original road, a second phase of traffic diversion to realign the Thomson-bound carriageway has been planned and expected to be implemented in the later part of this year.

Springleaf - Preparations to Divert

At the Springleaf site, construction of the ERSS on the west end of the station has completed. The project team is now preparing to stage a traffic diversion along Upper Thomson Road to construct the remaining portion of the station's retaining wall which lies below the existing road. This impending diversion is expected to be a permanent-temporary one, whereby it will last through most of the duration of the project. The diversion should take place within the next 2 months.

Due to the presence of a launch shaft at the north end that needs to be constructed and handed over to Shimizu of the neighboring contract T207, there is an urgency for the shaft to be done up swiftly. The handover is anticipated to take place around the middle of next year.

Springleaf & Tagore

As of today, 6 crawler cranes and 1 piling rig lies at the Springleaf site. A hydromill trench cutter has been attached to one of the cranes, marking the start of excavation for the diaphragm walls.

Trench excavation process

2 cutting drums are attached to the base of the trench cutter, operating in reverse circulation as it excavates the earth. As it excavates, soil is loosened, broken down and mixed with a support fluid which is then pumped to the desanding plant at the surface via mud pumps. The slurry is then cleaned and subsequently recirculated into the trench.

Contract T208 is the only TSL contract to have 2 stations under its scope of works. Springleaf station will be operational when the line is completed. The second station of Tagore will only have its basic structure ready and remain closed. Plans to rejuvenate the existing Ang Mo Kio town will see a phased expansion into the existing forest beyond Lentor. Its aesthetics and fittings will only be done up when there is sufficient demand from the new private residential estate.

In the meantime, the Tagore box will function very similar to the current Hume station along the Downtown Line. 4 TBMs will launch out of Tagore towards Springleaf and Lentor. Upon completion of tunnelling works, the Tagore site will be prepared as a temporary staging area for trackworks. There will be 3 cross passages between Springleaf and Tagore, and another 3 between Tagore and Lentor. 2 CPs will be integrated into the Tagore station.

Numerous crawler cranes have been delivered to the site at Springleaf. As of now, the trees along Upper Thomson have not been felled as earthworks are concentrated on the west side where the site office sits. Site clearing can be distinctively seen at Tagore as well.

Contract T208 is for the construction of Springleaf station and tunnels to Lentor station. Site clearing has commenced at the station location and the site office is mostly completed.

Contract Awards - T208 & T212

The LTA has awarded two contracts for the Thomson Line (TSL) today - T208 for construction of Springleaf station and T212 for construction of Upper Thomson station. T208 is awarded to the Leighton-John Holland Joint Venture (currently doing C935 Jalan Besar station on DTL3). T212 is awarded to Sato Kogyo (currently doing C928 Bedok North, C932 Mattar and C936 Bencoolen stations on DTL3). Also issued were some renders of the stations.
